High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, or HIFU for short, is a skin treatment for those who have skin sagging, crepiness, and other signs of skin ageing; one of the best-known brands of HIFU is Ultherapy.
Although the HIFU facial is super popular at our Hertfordshire HIFU skin clinic, you can also have HIFU treatments on the neck, chest, or body which sometimes surprises some people. We’re asked questions about HIFU both in-clinic during the consultation, as well as over the phone or via DM when clients are wanting to find out a little more about this skin treatment. I’m going to give you some of our FAQs all in one place to make your research a little easier.
HIFU is a non-surgical skin treatment which is used to tighten, smooth, and firm your skin. During the HIFU skin treatment, HIFU energy quickly causes the treated tissue to warm up. This heat creates something called a thermal injury which tricks the body into repair mode, thus producing new collagen and elastin.
The treatment can target different depths of your skin, from the top layer all the way down to the SMAS which is a mesh that lays over the top of your muscle, which results in tighter, firmer, and smoother skin.
Yes. At our HIFU skin clinic, we only ever offer treatments that have clinical papers that show their efficacy.
HIFU is more suited to mild to moderate skin laxity. Non-invasive treatments are not likely to give those who require surgical treatment their ultimate results. Having said that, those who have more advanced skin sagging and signs of ageing can consider combining HIFU with other non-invasive skin treatments should they not be interested in surgery.
We offer HIFU treatments for both your face and body following a thorough consultation at our HIFU skin clinic based in London Clinic, Nottingham Clinic. we can be found centrally with lots of nearby parking options. We also have great public transport links to London.
On average, full results are seen around three months after you’ve finished your course of HIFU.
HIFU skin tightening is considered a safe treatment when performed by a qualified and fully trained practitioner.
One of the reasons why the HIFU facial is so popular at our St. Alban’s skin clinic is that you can carry on your usual activities immediately after your HIFU treatment. You may have some pinkness or redness and light swelling of the tissue immediately after, but this usually subsides quickly; our clients are happy to go back to work or to socialise immediately after with the application of tinted sunscreen if required.
You may have some light tingling in the area treated, this usually subsides quite quickly but it has been reported to last for a few weeks. Rare side effects include temporary numbing in the area which usually subsides after a few days, and bruising. During a consultation, before you decide upon any treatments, your practitioner should discuss both the benefits of the treatment and any possible side effects with you.
Although HIFU is often referred to for skin tightening, it also reduces wrinkles and generally smooths your skin.
HIFU is ideal for the face. It can tighten sagging skin, redefine your features (such as your jawline), smooth your skin, and reduce your wrinkles. HIFU can be used on the face, neck, decolletage, and body.
